EKO HOT BLOG reports that former Senator Clement Annie Okonkwo, who previously represented Anambra Central Senatorial District in the sixth National Assembly, has passed away at the age of 63.
The news of his death comes just days before the inauguration ceremony of his son, Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, who is the House of Representatives member-elect for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State.
According to reports, Senator Okonkwo had been battling a brief illness and was on the path to recovery before his untimely demise. The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Senator Annie Okonkwo was a prominent figure in Anambra State’s political landscape. He served as a representative of the Anambra Central Senatorial District in the Sixth National Assembly from 2007 to 2011. During his tenure, he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In addition to his role as a lawmaker, Okonkwo contested the governorship election in Anambra State in 2010. Although he emerged as a governorship aspirant, he was unsuccessful in his bid, losing to the incumbent governor at the time, Peter Obi, who was re-elected.
