EKO HOT BLOG reports that the lawmaker representing Kano Central Senatorial district, Ibrahim Shekarau has announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan on Wednesday announced the defection of the former Governor of Kano State during plenary.
Lawan read the letter of his resignation after the upper legislative Chamber resumed a two-hour closed-door meeting on Wednesday.
Shekarau in the letter cited injustice and unfairness by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State as reasons for dumping APC.
He further stated that the ruling party for the past two years have been struggling with an unresolved crisis.
The letter reads partly, “I am defecting from the APC to my new party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party as a result of unfairness, injustice by Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
“For the past two years there has been an unresolved crisis in the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, hence, I have resigned my membership.”
