After five days of speculation surrounding his whereabouts, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara made his first public appearance on Sunday at the Salvation Ministry in Port Harcourt, Eko Hot Blog reports.
The governor, who regularly worships at the church, put an end to rumors that he and his family had taken refuge in the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa.
Fubara’s whereabouts fueled concerns about his safety and the political stability of Rivers State, the governor made a public appearance at a church service.
Fubara’s arrival was marked by a notably modest convoy, noticeably lacking the official flag or seal of the governor’s office.
This appearance comes amidst ongoing political tension in Rivers State over the proclamation of an emergency rule.
President Bola Tinubu recently declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich state, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly for six months.
While the President has the power to declare a state of emergency under specific conditions, such as a breakdown of public order and safety or threats to national security, the decision has faced criticism.
Some argue that the emergency rule undermines the spirit of federalism and grants excessive powers to the president.
