A sudden gas explosion at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Abeokuta, one of the venues for the 2024 Gateway Games, caused panic among athletes and spectators on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when a gas truck supplying the complex’s generating set caught fire, leading to chaos as people fled for safety.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and managed to control the situation. As of the latest reports, no casualties have been confirmed.
Despite the temporary disruption, events at the venue, including handball, squash, and badminton, have since resumed.
