EKO HOT BLOG reports that some yet-to-be-identified gunmen reportedly engaged officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in a gun duel on Monday night.
It was gathered that the daring confrontation happened along Awolowo road when officials of the federal law enforcement agency were trying to arrest the driver of a truck loaded with several bags of Cannabis.
However, the intervention of some military men prevented what would have resulted in a bloodbath, as the attackers fled the scene abandoning the truck.
Recall that last November, the Chairman of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen Buba Marwa (Rtd) raised the alarm that drug barons are killing his men as revenge in the fight against drug trafficking in the country.
“The NDLEA is very aggressive now against drug traffickers and the drug barons, and when you arrest and prosecute them and send them to jail, they are not happy.
“So they come after our personnel and with our personnel living in the town and cities and among them, we have been recording casualties and assassinations against them,” Marwa had said during an appearance before the House of Representatives Committee of Drugs and Narcotics.
