JUST IN: Heightened Security as Supreme Court Hears Atiku, Obi’s Election Appeals

EKO HOT BLOG reports that security at the Supreme Court in Abuja is tight as the court prepares to commence hearing the appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, as well as the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) challenging the judgment of the presidential election petition court that affirmed the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

Security operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force have been deployed to the court premises to ensure order and safety.

The appellants allege that the last presidential election was marred by irregularities. They are asking the Supreme Court to overturn the ruling of the presidential election petition court and declare Abubakar the winner of the election.

It would be recalled that the former Vice President has filed an application to the court asking that he could present the document he obtained from Chicago State University as evidence in his appeal against the judgment of the election tribunal, which went in favour of Tinubu.

The Supreme Court has until November 6, 2023, to give a judgment on the appeals.
