EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, on Monday, met with the new Chairperson of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase, a former IGP, in a bid to improve the relationship between the two agencies and enhance the security situation in the country.
The meeting, which took place at the PSC conference room at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, discussed measures to strengthen the partnership between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the PSC.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, IGP Baba disclosed that his visit was aimed at congratulating the new PSC Chairman, IGP Solomon Arase (retd.), and improving the relationship between the two agencies.
Baba emphasized the importance of proper leadership, guidance, and discipline in enhancing the performance of the police force, stating that when these elements are in place, officers will be motivated to do the right thing.
He said, “I am at the Police Service Commission to congratulate the assumption to office of the new chairman, IGP Solomon Arase (retd.). When there is proper leadership, guidance, sense of direction, discipline, promotion, appointment, people will be motivated to do the right thing.”
The IGP’s visit comes at a time when the country is grappling with security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping. The meeting is expected to facilitate a closer working relationship between the NPF and the PSC, which is tasked with recruiting, promoting, and disciplining police officers.
The PSC Chairman, Arase, also expressed his pleasure at the visit and pledged to work closely with the IGP to address the security challenges facing the country. He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the recruitment and promotion of police officers, stating that the PSC would work to ensure that these processes are fair and unbiased.
The meeting between the IGP and the PSC Chairman is seen as a step towards improving the performance of the NPF and enhancing security in the country. The partnership between the two agencies is crucial to ensuring that police officers are properly trained, motivated, and equipped to deal with the security challenges facing the country.
