• The Adamawa governorship election held on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

  • However, a winner is yet to be declared.

  • The electoral commission said the margin of votes between the two leading candidates is less than the number of registered votes in areas where elections did not hold.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Adamawa State governorship election as inconclusive.

INEC state collation officer, Prof Muhammadu Mele of the University of Maiduguri, said he made the decision due to the margin of votes.

“Elections were not held in 47 wards, affecting 69 polling units. So, this gives us a margin of 31,249 [between the leading candidates]. The total number of PVCs collected in places where elections were not held amounted to 37,016,” he said.

Mele said “based on these findings and analysis as stated in the electoral laws” where the margin between two candidates is lesser than the total number of collected PVCs in areas where elections were not held, the election is declared inconclusive.

Ahmadu Fintiri of PDP and Aisha Dahiru of APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose candidates are the major contenders in the election, have been trading blames.

The PDP has accused the INEC and the APC of attempts to alter the results to favour the latter.

As it stands, the PDP candidate and incumbent governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has a lead over the APC candidate, Aisha Dahiru.
