[JUST IN] Insecurity: President Buhari Gives Fresh Directive To Security Chiefs
- As part of efforts to combat security challenges bewildering the country, President Buhari has given a fresh directive to the security chiefs.
EKOHOTBLOG reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has directed security chiefs to develop new strategies to fight security threats facing the country, especially the abductions and killings in the North-West and North-Central regions.
The order by President Buhari was disclosed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali, while speaking to newsmen after the security chiefs’ meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
EKOHOTBLOG had earlier on Tuesday reported that President Buhari received briefings from the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, the IGP, and other heads of security agencies at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Others at the meeting include the Ministers of Defence, Bashir Magashi; Justice, Abubakar Malami; Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi; Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; and Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama.
However, the IGP, while speaking to newsmen after the meeting, revealed that Buhari directed the security chiefs to intensify their efforts to restore security across Nigeria to enable citizens to go about their normal lives, saying, “Yes, we had a brief security meeting. Service chiefs and the intelligence chiefs have been able to brief the President on the security situation of the country.

“The new marching order is that all the service chiefs and intelligence chiefs have been warned to go and reinvigorate efforts and to do more so that the North-Central and Nigeria at large should enjoy better security,” the police boss said.
The IGP added that the President has also observed and made a remark that the constitutional responsibility of government “is the provision of security, is one and is foremost and he is ready to provide such”.
