EKO HOT BLOG reports that Bashir Machina has been declared the victor of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary for the Yobe North Senatorial District by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Mr Machina polled 289 votes out of 300 delegates, in line with an official copy of INEC’s election record on May 28, 2022, supporting the politician’s assertion that he won the primary and was thus legitimately declared the winner, Peoples Gazette reports.
On June 23, 2022, the electoral office verified the paper, but Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President, who has been working to steal Mr Machina’s mandate in cooperation with the party’s national leader Abdullahi Adamu, was not mentioned in it.
Mr Adamu had designated Mr Lawan as the APC’s nominee for the Yobe North senatorial election scheduled for February 2023, asserting that a primary had taken place in secret and that Mr Lawan had allegedly won.

Even though the electoral office has declared Mr Machina the winner, he still anticipates extra battles when INEC posts candidates running for office from other political parties in the coming weeks. Even though its authentication was required to verify that an election took place, INEC claimed it lacked the authority to choose a candidate in an election.
After losing at the ruling party’s presidential convention on June 8, which Bola Tinubu easily won, Mr. Lawan began making moves to take Mr Machina’s ticket.
