EKO HOT BLOG reports that Manchester United’s Luke Shaw has extended his contract with the club until 2027. The 25-year-old defender has made 249 appearances for the Red Devils since joining from Southampton in 2014.
Earlier this season, United triggered a one-year extension in Shaw’s contract to keep him at Old Trafford until 2024. With this new deal, Shaw has committed his future to the club for an additional three years.
After signing the deal, Shaw expressed his excitement at being part of Manchester United’s future, saying “There’s a great opportunity to create something special here, and I’m going to give everything to be part of that.” He added, “We’re at the beginning of our journey under the manager and his coaching staff. We’ve been successful already this season, but we want much more.”
Manchester United’s football director John Murtough also spoke highly of Shaw’s contributions to the team, calling him “a massively important player to the squad” who has “grown into one of the best defenders in the world.” Murtough added that Shaw’s leadership skills have grown alongside his on-field abilities, making him a valuable asset to the team.
With Shaw’s contract situation resolved, Manchester United will now focus on securing the futures of other key players, including Marcus Rashford, David de Gea, and Diogo Dalot. United triggered one-year contract extensions in Rashford and Dalot’s contracts earlier this season to keep them at Old Trafford until 2024. Negotiations for new long-term deals with both players are ongoing.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is also in talks with De Gea over a new contract. The Spanish goalkeeper’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, and while the club has not triggered a one-year extension, they are keen to keep him on board. However, the club is reportedly asking De Gea to reduce his salary to remain with the Red Devils.
