JUST IN: Matawalle Loses As Tribunal Upholds Lawal’s Election As Zamfara Gov

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Zamfara State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Sokoto has affirmed the election of Dauda Lawal as the governor of the state.

The tribunal upheld the victory of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 18 governorship election, while dismissing the petition of former Governor Bello Matawalle, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recall that Lawal beat the incumbent in the election, polling 377,726 votes to the APC candidate’s 311,976 votes.

Matawalle is the current Minister of State for Defence.
