JUST IN: NAFDAC Alerts Nigerians On Circulation Of Fake PPE
- NAFDAC has alerted Nigerians on fake circulation of fake PPE.
EKOHOTBLOG reports that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians over the fake circulation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as the country battles against the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, made this known at the agency’s sensitisation campaign against fake drugs and consumables in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Speaking, the NAFDAC DG disclosed that the agency was ready to prosecute the criminals and equally mop up some of the pirated PPEs already in circulation across the country.
She added that the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic has aggravated the problem with the challenge posed by substandard and falsified PPE, saying the campaign will, therefore, contribute significantly to the Federal Government’s concerted efforts to inform, sensitise, educate and alert Nigerians about inherent dangers of intake and use of those spurious regulated products.

Adeyeye further noted that the public awareness campaign remained one of the veritable regulatory mechanisms put in place by NAFDAC to promote and protect the health of Nigerians, saying, “A well informed, sensitised and educated citizenry is the bedrock of effective regulation. This is why today’s event is another major milestone in our bid to protect Nigerians against the deleterious effects of unwholesome food, falsified medical products, Harmful Cosmetics, Poor Water, and other Substandard regulated products.
“The key objective of this sensitisation is to intensify and expand the scope of our informal and formal behaviour change communication strategies in order to reach the vulnerable communities, especially at the grassroots. Dissemination of Food and Drug safety information is an important aspect of our regulatory work,” the NAFDAC boss, who was represented at the event by the Director, North Central of the agency, Mrs. Bolaji Abayomi, stated.
