EKO HOT BLOG reports that the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake and substandard goods and products worth over N4.2 billion in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, explained that the destruction exercise was carried out in line with the agency’s mandate to eradicate fake and other spurious NAFDAC regulated products from circulation in Nigeria.

The event took place on Friday at the Aswama Dumpsite at Umuzocha, near the Anambra State secretariat complex, where various unsafe regulated products were seized from manufacturers, importers, and distributors in the combined team of South-East and South-South zones.
The destruction exercise was a periodic activity carried out by the South-East and South-South zonal destruction team. Representing the Director-General at the event, the Head of Taskforce team, Francis Ononiwu, stated that the products destroyed included spurious, counterfeited, substandard, and falsified medicinal products, unwholesome processed food products, and several other unsafe regulated products.
Adeyeye listed the destroyed products to include antibiotics, anti-hypertensive, anti-diabetic, anti-asthmatic, aphrodisiacs, antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, herbal remedies, and psychoactive drugs. In addition, banned drugs such as analgin, tramadol (above 100mg), gentamycin 280mg, and controlled substances, vaccines, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, cosmetics, chemicals, and unwholesome food were also destroyed during the exercise.
