EKO HOT BLOG reports that Members of the National Assembly have insisted that they will go ahead with their vow to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari when the six weeks ultimatum expires.
Nigeria is reportedly dealing with several issues, but security has proven to be the most pressing.
Attacks by terrorists and criminal groups have taken place in numerous areas, and more recently in the capital, Abuja.
A prison break in Abuja on July 5 freed hundreds of prisoners, including some convicted or charged with terrorism.
In July, six troops on patrol in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, were killed in a clash with armed men.
Large-scale kidnappings from schools are another problem, and authorities recently ordered the closure of public and private schools in Abuja to prevent children from being abducted.
The final warning to Buhari over worsening insecurity ends in four weeks’ time, and the opposition lawmakers in the National Assembly have said there is no going back on their resolve to impeach the President.
Lawmakers like Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi representing Osun East senatorial district under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Enyinnaya Abaribe, former minority leader of the Senate; Toby Okechukwu, the Deputy Minority Leader of the ninth House of Representatives, Toby Okechukwu (PDP, Enugu); Nicholas Tofowomo, the Senator Representing Ondo South Senatorial District, all of whom spoke with journalists insisted that the impeachment process of Buhari is still alive.
“Even northern senators are in support of the impeachment; you heard Senator Clifford (Ordia) from Edo, Senator Bulkachuwa (Mohammed), and the rest,” Fadahunsi said.
He added:
“We are not backing down on the impeachment move and, I won’t back down.”
Meanwhile, this newspaper understands that the leadership of the Senate and the service chiefs are working hard to prevent the impeachment of President Buhari.
