EKO HOT BLOG reports that former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s in-law, Dr John Abebe, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for committing forgery and money laundering.
On Saturday, Justice Mojisola Dada of the Ikeja Special Offences Court delivered a sentence that included seven years of imprisonment, as well as the option of a N50 million fine to be paid within 30 days in lieu of serving time in prison.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Abebe, who is the younger brother to the late former First Lady, Stella Obasanjo, before the court for forgery.
The EFCC, in the charges, claimed that Abebe “knowingly forged” a November 30, 1995 letter written by BP Exploration Nigeria Limited to Inducon Limited.
The trial judge handed the judgement after it was established that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted him accordingly.
