EKO HOT BLOG reports that the founder and presiding bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, David Oyedepo, has denied allegations of campaigning for any politician in Nigeria.
Oyedepo made this clarification while delivering a sermon on the subject of faith at the church’s headquarters, Faith Tabernacle, Ota.
This is coming hours after an audio recording, allegedly of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, pleading with the bishop to instruct Christians in South West Nigeria to vote for him surfaced online.
Oyedepo, while addressing the congregation, stated that he had never campaigned for any politician or spoken on behalf of any political party in the country.
According to him, all political parties sought his prayers and advice before the elections, and he provided guidance to them.
He said, “Nobody had ever told me what to say in this world. No. I have never campaigned for anybody or spoken on anybody’s behalf and I will not do that till I go to heaven. There is no (political) party in this country that didn’t come to me for prayers and advice.”
Oyedepo further explained that he advised all the political parties that sought his guidance, and some of them took his advice, while others didn’t. He stated that those who followed his advice saw positive results, while those who didn’t went about it their own way.
The clergyman, who has been a vocal critic of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), reiterated that his stance on political matters remained unchanged. He emphasized that he would continue to offer prayers and advice to all political parties in Nigeria, but would never campaign for anyone.
The alleged audio recording of Obi, which went viral on social media, caused a stir among Nigerians, with many expressing shock and disappointment at the possibility of the bishop getting involved in partisan politics. However, with Oyedepo’s clarification, it appears that the speculation was unfounded.
