EKO HOT BLOG reports that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shed light on the reason for striker Erling Haaland’s absence from the squad that faced Liverpool on Saturday, April 1st, at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking before the game, Guardiola confirmed that Haaland was not fully fit after missing the international break with Norway.
As a result, the coach opted not to risk playing him in the crucial match against Liverpool, a team challenging for the Premier League title.
“He is much, much better but not fully fit for today. He didn’t feel good. With thought, we said, ‘no risk’. During the season you have these types of problems, with injuries. The only thing we can do is complain, but we have never done it. So now the other players are going to play,” Guardiola explained.
The decision to rest Haaland, who joined Manchester City in the summer transfer window from Borussia Dortmund, was seen as a significant setback to City’s chances against Liverpool.
The Norwegian striker has been a key player for the team, shattering records across all competitions this season with a number of hat-tricks and man of the match worthy performances.
