Just In: Port Worker Tests Positive For Coronavirus In Lagos

Another case of COVID-19 has been recorded at the Lagos seaport.

The latest case is an employee member of the APM Terminals, Apapa.

According to a statement from the concessionaire, the worker last visited the port on April 16 but his COVID-19 status was confirmed on April 27.

The statement signed by the General Manager, External Relations, APMT, Daniel Odibe, disclosed that the employee developed malaria symptoms and was referred to a hospital where he was initially treated before he was referred to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control for further test.

It read in part, “We were informed on April 27 that the test result came out positive.

“The case is currently being handled by NCDC while we continue with our precautionary and response plans in strict adherence to the COVID19 protocol.”

Recall that on Saturday, an employee of Sifax Ports and Cargo terminals in Tin Can Island port tested positive for COVID-19.

The Nigerian Ports Authority disclosed this in a statement which was also confirmed by Sifax Group.

According to the statements signed by the General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, NPA, Jatto Adams, and the Corporate Affairs Manager, Sifax Group, Muyiwa Akande, a member of staff of Sifax, his father-in-law, wife, and children all tested positive for the pandemic.
