In response to the tragic death of a student who was struck by a stray bullet, youths in Ibadan took to the streets on Tuesday, protesting at the Oyo State Government Secretariat.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the fatal shot was fired by a policeman pursuing a suspect near Gbagi market road.
The victim, who was en route to sit for the ongoing West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams with his sibling and father, was rushed to Welfare Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Outraged by the incident, residents and protesters called for Governor Seyi Makinde’s intervention, hoping to raise awareness about the tragic consequences of police actions.
Comrade Yemi Ezekiel Bello, President of Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI), condemned the killing and urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to launch an investigation into the matter.
He said, “Dear IGP and stakeholders, kindly investigate the above case as allegedly reported that a man was taking his children to school this morning and some alleged police officers and OYRTMA, while casing Yahoo boys, and others said while chasing traffic law offenders, started shooting indiscriminately and bullet hit this little boy and killed him.
