Sanwo-Olu Declares 3-Day Mourning Following Train Accident

  • Sanwo-Olu has declared a 3-day mourning in respect of the victims of the train accident.

  • The governor has temporarily suspended all political activities in the state.

  • Sanwo-Olu also declared half-day work for public workers in the state tomorrow (Friday).

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his campaign for three days following the train accident in the PWD area along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

The governor announced at a press conference on Thursday that all public activities planned for the day in the state have been called off due to the death of six individuals and injuries sustained by several others.

Sanwo-Olu also declared half-day work for public workers in the state tomorrow (Friday), adding that all flags are to be raised at half-mast across the state.

The governor also declared three days of mourning in the state in respect of the victims of the train accident.

He said 85 passengers were on board the bus, and six deaths have been confirmed (2 brought in dead, as announced by LASEMA, while 4 more dead at the hospital).

According to the governor, 42 persons sustained moderate injuries, while 29 others sustained serious injuries, and eight persons had mild injuries.

He thanked the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), security agencies, staff, and students of the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja for their timely response.

The governor also thanked the Staff of the state government for showing up for their loved ones and also encouraging them to be hopeful.

He also commended his fellow contestants, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP), and Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for coming to the hospital to also commiserate with the victims and the state government.

On why the victims were laid on the floor under the tent, the governor said the victims are kept under a triage center in order to be immediately profiled and attended to and identify the various levels of injuries of the patients.

Sanwo-Olu added that after identifying the various levels of injuries of the patients, each victim will be sent to various wards and others for treatment.
