Eko Hot Blog reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is leading in the Lagos State governorship election.
Sanwo-Olu is running for a second term as Lagos governor and hoping to fend off the challenge of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) and Abdul-Azeez Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The incumbent governor has won 18 LGAs of the 19 announced so far by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Sanwo-Olu defeated the LP governorship candidate in his LGA, Ikeja. He polled 32,273 votes to defeat Rhodes-Vivour who had 15,174
In his own LGA, Lagos Island, the governor won by a healthy margin.
The Lagos governor also won Surulere LGA, the base of Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
In Ojo, the LGA of the PDP candidate, Sanwo-Olu also posted a convincing victory.
He secured 30,797 votes while the PDP candidate had 3,889 and Rhodes-Vivour polled 19,027.
The LP won only one LGA — Amuwo Odofin — where the party polled 34, 860 votes to defeat the APC and the PDP, who polled 17, 576 and 1, 809 votes, respectively.
Meanwhile, the results from 19 of 20 LGAs have been announced with the APC winning 18 and the LP winning one.
The remaining LGA is Eti-Osa where election is just rounding up.
Oladiji Adenike, the returning officer, announced a break, disclosing that the exercise will reconvene by 5pm.
