UPDATED: Sowore Remanded In Kuje Prison Over New Year’s Eve Protest
The Federal Government has taken Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore and four others before a Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.
Sowore alongside others were arrested by the police for leading a protest against bad governance, tagged #CrossoverWithProtest on New Year’s Eve at Gudu Junction in the nations capital.
The federal government has charged them for criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and attempted to incitement, charges they all pleaded “not guilty”.

The Prosecution, however, alleged that the defendants were arrested on New Year eve with placards calling for a violent revolution against President Muhammadu Buhari.
The court however remanded Sowore and others at the Kuje Correctional Centre with their formal bail application hearing slated for Tuesday January 5, 2020.
“We have been sent to the infamous Kuje Prison for the next 24 hours while they plot their next moves. But we are very resolute and convinced that this year will be different for the tyrant! #RevolutionNow,” Sowore wrote in a tweet.
Eko Hot Blog reported how Sowore, in a tweet before the protest, asked Nigerians to hold a crossover protest by picking up a candle and a placard to register their grievances against President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Sowore was detained for over 100 days in 2019 for championing a #RevolutionNowProtest.
