Eko Hot Blog reports that the Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed Sheriff Oborevwori, Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, as the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Amina Augie, delivered the judgement on Friday.
The court upheld the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal delivered on August 29 in Abuja.
Oborevwori polled 590 votes to beat David Edevbie, who polled 113 votes, during the PDP primary in May.
Edevbie, the Commissioner for Finance during the James Ibori administration, is said to be backed by the former governor.
But Oborevwori is the preferred candidate of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.
Dissatisfied with the process that returned the Delta speaker as the PDP governorship candidate in the state in May, Edevbie had challenged the primary election in court.
