• Last year, Tambuwal ran for president on the platform of the PDP.

  • He, however, withdrew from the race in support of the eventual nominee of the party.

  • The Sokoto governor opted to run for the senate and he has been successful in his bid.

Eko Hot Blog reports that Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has won the Sokoto South Senatorial election by a margin ot 4,976 votes.

Tambuwal defeated the incumbent senator and APC candidate, Ibrahim Danbaba Dambuwa.

The returning officer, Professor Abubakar Bagudo, declared the governor winner on Sunday morning.

Tambuwal scored 100,860 votes while Danbaba polled 95,884 votes.

Earlier, he picked the PDP presidential form before he announced his withdrawal on the day of the primary for the eventual nominee and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

However, the governor will be returning to the National Assembly as a senator representing Sokoto South senatorial district with his latest victory.
