Eko Hot Blog reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of three new Executive Commissioners to serve in the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
The president’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday evening.
He also disclosed that Tinubu had approved the redeployment of one current Executive Commissioner, pending their confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
Dr. Kelechi Ofoegbu, who’s from the southeastern part of Nigeria, has been redeployed as Executive Commissioner, Corporate Services & Administration.
Meanwhile, the new commissioners are Mr. Bashir Indabawa, Executive Commissioner, Exploration & Acreage Management (Northwest); Mr. Enorense Amadasu, Executive Commissioner, Development & Production (South South), and Mr. Babajide Fasina, Executive Commissioner, Economic Regulation & Strategic Planning (Southwest).
Ngelale stated that the president approved this reshuffling and replacement based on “his deeply informed assessment of all factors concerning the sector with a view to establishing a regulatory framework and culture that comprehensively disincentivizes errant behaviour and incentivizes diligence and rules-based business practice across the industry.”
NUPRC has the statutory responsibility of ensuring compliance to petroleum laws, regulations and guidelines in the Upstream Oil and Gas Sector.
The discharge of these responsibilities involves monitoring of operations at drilling sites, producing wells, production platforms and flowstations, crude oil export terminals, and all pipelines carrying crude oil and natural gas.
Last week, the commission received a request from Dangote Refinery to guarantee the supply of 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
“We received a request from the refinery to guarantee feedstock to the 650,000 barrels per day refinery, and we believe that as a nation, it will be a shame if we cannot meet the feedstock of the refinery,” said Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, the Chief executive of NUPRC, during a meeting with crude oil producers in Abuja recently.
