JUST IN: Tobi Amusan Not Cleared Of Doping – World Athletics Insists

Eko Hot Blog reports that Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan, has not been cleared to participate in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary next week, World Athletics declared on Sunday.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) had earlier removed Amusan’s name from the upcoming competition as she is still being investigated for alleged doping.

AFN, however, later included her name in the world athletics championship list, sparking speculations that she had been cleared of the doping allegation.

World Athletic, however, released a statement on Sunday morning to clarify that the Nigerian star has not been cleared to take part in the competition.

“Please be advised – reports that say Tobi Amusan has been cleared to compete in Budapest are wrong,”

No decision has been made in this case yet. When a decision is made, it will be announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit,” the statement by World Athletics’ Head of Communications, Nicole Jeffery, reads.

It could be recalled that World Athletics included the 26-year-old Nigeria’s name in the entry list for the Budapest Championships published last week but with a proviso that her participation would depend on the outcome of the whereabouts failure charge preferred against her by the AIU.

The AIU has said a decision regarding the matter will be made before the start of the World Championships.
