The Ugandan government has arrested activist and opposition leader Bobi Wine as fresh protest broke out in the South African country.
The arrest of wine was disclosed by his office in a statement.
The statement said Bobi Wine was arrested for leading peace demonstration against, abduction and killing of his followers.
‘Bobi Wine arrested as he led MPs and other leaders in a peaceful protest against the abduction, torture and murder of his supporters,” an official statement on Twitter said on Monday morning. “The protest was taking place at City Square, Kampala.”
It was not immediately clear whether the arrest is at the behest of President Yoweri Museveni, or which agency was responsible.
The Ugandan government has continued to persecute and crack down on Bobi Wine and his supporters following the disputed presidential elections in January.
Bobi Wine contested the January poll against Museveni long time dictator.
