Eko Hot Blog reports that Melaye, who is the national agent of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), alleged discrepancies in the results of some states, especially Ekiti State.
While the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said the issues would be addressed later, Melaye insisted they must be addressed immediately by the Ekiti State collation officer.
“We are Nigerians, we will defend our right. We want an explanation from the collation. We cannot allow another state. Let him declare that what is uploaded is what he’s going to present,” he said.
The PDP chieftain dared the INEC boss to evict him from the hall.
Yakubu implored Melaye to stop the disruption and let the collation continue.
“You’re now being disruptive of the process. We will come back to the issues,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, Melaye had allowed the proceedings to move forward after halting the collation for some minutes.
However, he has kept making constant protests.
The scenes echoed the conduct of a former Minister of Niger Delta, Godsday Orubebe, who also attempted to disrupt the collation of presidential election results in 2015.
