EKO HOT BLOG reports that following the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) April 27 deadline for the enforcement of the ban on open grazing and beef consumption in the South East, gunmen abducted 10 members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) along with 300 cows in Anambra State on Saturday.

It was gathered that the armed men demanded N4 million in ransom and a rifle from the abductees’ relatives.

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. today at Obene Community in Ogbaru Local Government Area (LGA), according to Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, MACBAN’s South East Chairman.

The incident was confirmed by Anambra police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu.

Gunmen attacked the Igboukwu Cattle Market in Anambra State’s Aguata Local Government Area earlier this month, killing over 20 cows and goats.

Since last year, violence has erupted in the southeastern states. According to the police, at least 150 officers or members of the security services have been killed by gunmen. According to local media, some 30 police stations and election commission offices have been targeted.

The violence has been blamed on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), an illegal movement seeking independence for the region’s ethnic Igbo, and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), but IPOB has disputed the allegations.
