According to eyewitness accounts and the victim’s family, Michael was returning from Oke-Oyinbo when he was shot and brutally macheted.
Speaking exclusively with this reporter, Mrs. Olaifa, the grieving mother, shared the pain of losing her only son under such horrific circumstances.
“He was my light, my joy, and my strength,” she said tearfully. “That night changed my life forever. He did nothing wrong, he was just a boy trying to get home.”
Michael’s body was released from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) mortuary in Epe for burial, as friends, relatives, and members of the community gathered to pay their final respects.
Many could not hold back tears as his body was lowered into the ground.
“I looked him in the eye in court and asked him why,” Mrs. Olaifa said, referring to a court appearance where she confronted the suspect.
“He only said he doesn’t understand what happened and asked for forgiveness. But how do you forgive someone who took your child away without reason?”
The Lagos State Police had earlier confirmed the arrest of the suspect, Idowu, and the case has since been charged to court.
During the proceedings at the Federal High Court in Lagos, the judge ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending further hearing.
“This case is not just about Michael,” said a family friend at the burial. “It’s about every young person who deserves to live without fear. Justice must be served to send a strong message that no life is dispensable.”

“I am grateful to everyone who has stood by me, prayed with me, and encouraged me. Your love is the only thing holding me up right now,” she said.
As the legal process continues, the community holds its breath, hoping for justice not only for Michael Olaifa but also for every innocent life caught in the web of violence.
