Governor Godwin Obaseki has ordered that the Nigerian police force should investigate the death of Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
Ekohotblog reports that Miss Omozuwa was brutalised by unknown men when she went to read in a branch of RCCG, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin.The 22-year old was brutally raped and severely beaten on May 27, 2020.
The Management of the school, in its reaction, said it received the news with shock and condemned the killing of Miss Omozuwa. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian salami, in a statement obtained by EKOHOTBLOG stated the actions are condemnable and should not be condoned by any society.
According to the statement issued by the spokesperson of the University, Benedicta Ehanire, “She (Mrs Salami) said the current pandemic was already hard on everyone and that compounding it with inflicting additional pain on any family is a wicked act.”
However, Mr Obaseki announced that he had ordered the Nigeria Police Force to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death Miss Omozuwa.

“The @PoliceNG has been mandated to identify, arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable in her death. The Violence Against Persons (VAP) Law is in effect in our state.”
