Kaduna Community Lauds USAID On Water Sanitation Project

Gwagwada Community in Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna State wants Governments and Development partners to provide them with modern toilets and borehole Facilities to curb hygiene and health challenges resulting from Open Defecation.

The call became imperative following the high concentration of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in the area leading to increasing demand for water and sanitation facilities to tackle cholera outbreak and other life-threatening diseases.

Community Leaders, Mal. Danlami Galadima and Luka Gadani made the plea at the inauguration and handing over of Water Sanitation Facilities, and a project supported by the United States Agency For International Development, USAID in Gwagwada District, Kaduna State-Nigeria.

They Lamented the high influx of internally displaced persons to Gwagwada communities which according to them had overstretched the available health and social Facilities in the area leading to a continuous outbreak of water-borne diseases within the district and its environs.

According to them, the intervention from the foreign donors had brought hope to the entire community, as it would improve the living standards of people in the area, and at the same time, address their health needs.

The USAID program’s Manager Mrs. Omokide Chikodinaka explained that a Need Assessment had been carried out before the project was executed and called on the benefitting communities to ensure its maintenance and sustainability for effective utilization.

She pointed out however that, Three buildings comprising 12 Apartments, security lights, 3 solar-powered boreholes and toilets among Others were constructed for 3 communities in Gwagwada District with a view to improving their access to water sanitation for sustainable development.
