Kannywood Director, Hassan Giggs, has pledged to sponsor the medical treatment
of 17-year-old Sani Lawal who is suffering from serious eye defect.
Giggs, a director in the Hausa-language film industry of Northern Nigeria, made this known in Daura, Katsina State on Thursday
when he met the boy, saying he was sympathetic toward the young man’s medical condition.
He told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he saw the photograph of the patient on Instagram, where his medical condition was revealed, hence his
decision to assist the young chap.
He said he would sponsor the medical treatment of Lawal at the popular International Makkah Eye Clinic in Kano, irrespective of the financial implication
involved, stressing that “I am ready to take Lawal to any available eye centre anywhere in the world.”
He added that the young man would be taken to the eye clinic in Kano for evaluation and professional advice to know the next line of action.
“He should be in Kano by next week Sunday for immediate commencement of treatment and all his needs like feeding, clothing and every other complementary
support would be taken care of.
“I would want see Lawal back in school because he had finished primary six and would like to go further.
“My colleagues and I in the film industry would also want to continue to shoulder the responsibilities of Lawal until graduation from the university.”
Malam Lawal Isah, the biological father of the patient, expressed gratitude to Giggs and colleagues for indicating interest to help his eldest son.
He prayed for God’s mercies on all those who initiated the process, adding that Lawal’s family would continue to pray for them as this was clear divine intervention.
Malam Lawal Ado, former Editor-in-Chief of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and key member of the Daura Emirate Development Forum, described the action
as commendable and urged other groups and public-spirited individuals to emulate the Kannywood director.

He said that such initiatives were needed in larger numbers to help the poor.
Sani Lawal lost his sight last year when he finished primary six and his parents could not sponsor his treatment due to financial incapacitation.
Meanwhile, Giggs donated N40,000 to the parents of the young man to enable them to fend for themselves and address other pressing issues.
