Kano Consumer Protection Council Director Arrested for Collecting Bribe

  • Kano anti-graft agency arrests consumer protection director for collecting bribe

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Kano Anti-Corruption Commission has detained Mr Bello Alkarya, better known as Nigeria, the Director of Quality Assurance of the Kano Consumer Protection Council, for allegedly accepting bribes.

Barrister Mahmud Balarabe, the Commission’s Chairman, stated that Alkarya was apprehended after being caught in the act.

He said, “We have an officer of the State Consumer Protection Council arrested red-handed, and we are investigating the matter because for now I personally don’t have details about his arrest but he is in our cell”.

Another municipal director was claimed to have been detained in recent months after being accused of receiving bribes as well.

Similarly, the Department of State Services (DSS) apprehended General Idris Bello Dambazau, Chairman of the Kano Consumer Protection Council, this week on suspicion of economic sabotage.

Following the deployment of its previous leader, Baffa Baba Dan’Agundi, as the seizure of illicit narcotics and food goods, the Consumer Protection Council’s credibility reached an all-time low.

Over N15 billion in illicit narcotics and other contraband were captured and burned under the rule of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) commander Dan’Agundi as interim Chairman of the protection council.

However, such euphoria of seizures has since become history at the council, while allegations of corruption and bribery have become the order of the day.
