Kano Boosts COVID-19 Fight As Cases Increase
The Kano State Government says it is creating more isolation centres as part of its concerted efforts to tackle and containing the spread of COVID-19.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who is also the Chairman of the State Task Force Committee on COVID-19, who disclosed this when he paid an inspection visit to the facilities, said some facilities are being converted to isolation centres.
The Deputy Governor said that despite having three isolation facilities at Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital, Kwanar Dawaki Hospital and Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Government is converting the facilities with a view to curbing the rising cases of COVID-19 in the State.
The facilities are the Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, Murtala Muhammed Library Complex, Hospitality and Tourism Institute formerly Daula Hotel, Sports Institute at Karfi and the Nigerian Air Force Hospital in Kano.
He averred the conversion of the Hospitality and Tourism Institute formerly Daula Hotel to an isolation centre with an estimated 50- bed capacity starts immediately followed with 80 beds at Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital.
Gawuna revealed that the Isolation centre at Murtala Muhammad Library Complex is expected to accommodate over 200 beds and also an estimated 300 beds will be provided at Karfi Sports Institute.
While 20 rooms are to be converted into an isolation centre at the Nigerian Air Force Hospital.
The Deputy Governor assured residents that the state government is taking all measures to check the spread of the dreaded disease and urged residents to always remember that COVID-19 is transmittable.
Kano state has been beleaguered by various health challenges in recent weeks from the strange illness that’s killed over 500 people in the state, amongst which are high profile people, to the Upsurge in COVID-19 cases that saw it recorded the highest daily cases in the country for two days consecutively — 80 on Thursday and 90 on Friday
