Kano State Commissioner, Yusuf Kofarmata, has stepped down from his role in the State Executive Council, citing a departure from the political principles that brought the current administration to power.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that in a statement released on Sunday, Kofarmata said his resignation was guided by conscience and taken in good faith.
“I hereby resign my appointment as commissioner and member of the Kano State Executive Council. I cannot continue to work under a government that has derailed from the ideology that brought it to power,” he stated.

During his tenure, Kofarmata served in both the Ministry of Tertiary Education and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. He expressed gratitude to the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), national leader Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement for their support.
“I remain grateful to our national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the people who stood with us throughout the journey. Long live NNPP, long live the Kwankwasiyya movement,” he added.
Kofarmata’s resignation comes in the wake of Governor Yusuf’s recent exit from the NNPP, which has sparked a series of resignations and political realignments among appointees and party affiliates.

Several stakeholders aligned with the Kwankwasiyya movement have either resigned or distanced themselves from the state government, citing ideological differences and concerns over its political direction.
The commissioner’s departure highlights ongoing internal tensions in Kano’s political scene as alignments continue to shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.
