The Kano State Fire Service has called on residents to be vigilant in handling fire and to take proactive steps to safeguard their lives and property against fire hazards.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the appeal came during a public awareness and sensitisation programme held on Thursday at the Danbatta Local Government Area, where the Assistant Director of the Fire Service, Hassan Abba Gaya, led efforts to educate the community on fire safety measures, particularly during the harmattan season.

According to a statement by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, the programme took place at the Danbatta District Head’s Palace and is part of the statewide campaign to reduce fire outbreaks.
The initiative, which commenced last week, aims to enlighten residents on practical tips to prevent fires and respond effectively during emergencies.
The Service urged the public to report any fire-related incidents promptly by contacting its offices via 08107888878 or 07026026400.
The Director of the Fire Service has also directed the Fire Prevention Unit to maintain a high level of commitment to the campaign to achieve maximum impact.
Recent fire tragedies in Kano underscore the urgency of such awareness campaigns. Last Friday, four people, including two children, lost their lives in three separate incidents across the state.
In one of the tragedies, a family of four perished in an early morning blaze that destroyed their home at Kundila Layin Baba Impossible in Tarauni Local Government Area.
Moreover, last month, a fire at the popular Singer Market destroyed 25 temporary shops and 19 stores, highlighting the persistent risk of fire outbreaks in the state.
The Kano State Fire Service continues to stress the importance of preparedness, caution, and community cooperation to prevent future tragedies during the harmattan season.
