EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a bold declaration, Abba Kabir Yusuf, the incoming governor of Kano State, has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the N241 billion debt inherited from the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Familiarly known as Abba Gida Gida, Yusuf expressed his dissatisfaction with the handover notes provided by Ganduje’s administration, considering them inadequate and lacking in detail.
Criticizing Ganduje for deviating from established democratic practices, Yusuf pointed out that the outgoing governor failed to personally hand over the state government to him, instead relying on the Secretary to the State Government for the process.
Expressing concerns about the insufficiency of the handover notes and the transition committee report, the incoming governor asserted that he and his team would meticulously examine the documents. He emphasized that if they find the information provided to be satisfactory, appropriate actions will be taken accordingly.
However, should they encounter areas of dissatisfaction, corresponding actions will be pursued accordingly.
Yusuf expressed deep dismay at the state’s staggering debt profile, which amounts to over N241 billion. He raised questions about the source of funds necessary to address this significant financial burden. The incoming governor specifically highlighted the inadequate internal revenue generation and raised concerns regarding the utilization of multiple consultants.
He vowed to launch a comprehensive investigation into these matters, underscoring his dissatisfaction with the current situation.
Concluding his statement, Yusuf reassured the people of Kano State that his administration is fully committed to working diligently and achieving their shared goals. He emphasized that personal gain and land acquisition are not their driving forces but rather a sincere commitment to serving the state and accomplishing their objectives within the next four years.
As Abba Kabir Yusuf assumes office, his commitment to transparency, accountability, and addressing the debt burden inherited from the previous administration signals the beginning of a new era for Kano State. The residents eagerly anticipate the outcomes of the investigation and look forward to witnessing the positive changes promised by the incoming governor’s administration.
