Abdullahi Maikaba became part of Kano Pillars on July 24, 2023, following stints coaching various Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) teams, such as Enyimba, Akwa United, Plateau United, and Enugu Rangers.

Meanwhile, his tenure at Kano Pillars thus far hasn’t matched the expectations, with his players struggling to perform up to par in the NPFL.

Hence, the former league champions have faced significant challenges in securing victories, with a concerning record of 14 defeats, 5 draws, and only 13 wins in 32 games.

Based on the mentioned statistics, Pillars currently occupies the 9th position with 44 points, standing 8 points clear of the relegation zone and trailing by 13 points from the top spot.

During an interview with reporters, Abdullahi Maikaba asserted that the struggles of the four-time NPFL champions stem from insufficient funding and inadequate support from the club’s stakeholders.

However, he expressed optimism that the situation will improve following the appointment of a new commissioner for sports, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, by the state government.

“I need a conducive environment to work. I’m not conducive in Kano,” the coach said.
