Ekohotblog reports that a middle-aged man was electrocuted on a Kano Electricity Company high-tension cable around midnight on Monday.
According to the company’s spokesman, Ibrahim Shawai, the individual was electrocuted when electricity was restored while attempting to steal the cables.
He said that the deceased and his group had been vandalizing KEDCO wires but left when the terrible tragedy occurred, leaving the remains of their comrade behind.
Shawai voiced concern that the escalating vandalism of their cables and other infrastructure necessitates strong action from both communities and security forces.
He said right now the company is running on multiple losses with a lack of payments of tariffs and the theft of their equipment.
When contacted, DSP Haruna Kiwaya, spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, said the matter is under investigation.
