The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who passed away while being held by bandits, describing the incident as a painful loss to both the state and the country.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, Eko Hot Blog gathered that the government said the former military officer died due to complications from diabetes and hypertension during captivity.

Authorities disclosed that coordinated efforts were made in collaboration with security agencies to secure his release, but all attempts proved unsuccessful.
The statement expressed deep sorrow over the development, noting that his death occurred despite sustained rescue efforts.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda described the incident as a tragic and difficult moment for Katsina State, stressing that it highlights the urgent need to strengthen security responses against banditry.

He extended condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with federal authorities and security agencies to combat insecurity in the state.
The government also assured residents that efforts to eliminate banditry and protect lives would continue with renewed determination.
Retired Major General Abubakar was abducted alongside his wife on May 30 while travelling within Katsina State, with reports indicating that the kidnappers had earlier demanded the release of detained fighters and livestock as conditions for their freedom.
