Katsina Plans to Rent Out Songhai Farm for ₦600 Million

Ekohotblog reports that the Katsina State Government is preparing to rent out the multi-billion naira Songhai Farm to Omena Nigeria Limited, a private firm, for ₦600 million over a three-year period.

This was disclosed over the weekend by the State Agriculture Commissioner, Prof. Ahmed Bakori, while defending the ministry’s budget before the state’s House of Assembly’s Committee on Appropriation.

Located in Dutsinma Local Government Area, the farm was constructed and equipped with modern agricultural facilities at the cost of N3 billion during the Governor Ibrahim Shema administration.

It was created to train farmers on modern farming methods, produce fertilizer, and meet other agricultural needs for both rainy and dry season farming. The farm is arguably one of the best agricultural projects in Africa.

Governor Aminu Masari, the former Governor, once leased out the farm to Dangote Group of Companies at a price of N500 million for a three-year period.

Bakari mentioned  that the company has begun  putting up structures for the full take-off of the center and shared that the government may review the leasing agreement after the three-year period.
