Katsina Woman Honored with ₦500,000 for Returning Mistaken Payment

On Tuesday, the Katsina State Government recognized the remarkable honesty of a woman, Malama Amina Abdulkadir-Yanmama, by rewarding her with ₦500,000 for returning ₦748,320 that was mistakenly sent to her account.

The money was meant for the Federal Government’s Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in Katsina State.

Dr. Mudassir Nasir, the executive director of the Katsina State Social Investment Programme Agency (KASIPA), handed over the reward to Abdulkadir-Yanmama during an official presentation.

Explaining the incident, Nasir said the woman received a bank alert showing a deposit labeled “Payment for vendors who were providing primary school pupils with free food.”

Despite the substantial amount of money, Abdulkadir-Yanmama quickly realized that the funds were not meant for her. She acted responsibly and visited the KASIPA office to report the issue.

According to her, she was not a registered vendor for the feeding programme and had no connection to it. To confirm her claim, KASIPA requested her bank statement, and the office of the Auditor-General verified her account of the situation.

Impressed by her honesty, Governor Dikko Radda instructed that Abdulkadir-Yanmama should be rewarded for her integrity. She was given ₦500,000, a commendation letter, and an offer to participate in the next phase of the school feeding programme.

The governor emphasized the importance of such honesty in society and encouraged others to follow her example.

She said, “I knew that I had to return the money because it doesn’t belong to me.” Her actions and recognition serve as a powerful example of integrity and responsibility in the community.
