Eko Hot Blog reports that Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the Executive Director of the Center for Sustainable Development, has shed light on the challenges plaguing Nigeria’s fuel supply chain.
Dr. Opeifa provided his view of those challenges in a recent interview on Channels TV.
The interview comes as Nigeria grapples with yet another bout of persistent fuel scarcity.
Citizens across the nation are facing long queues at petrol stations, with disruptions to daily life becoming increasingly common.
Reacting to the situation, Dr. Opeifa pointed out that inadequate refining capacity is a significant factor contributing to the country’s persistent fuel challenge.
He also highlighted logistical constraints as a significant factor contributing to the recurring fuel scarcity. He pointed out inadequacies in the distribution system within the petroleum sector.
Despite these challenges, Dr. Kayode Opeifa reassured Nigerians of an accurate solution to the fuel scarcity issue in the near future.
The Center for Sustainable Development director also emphasized that despite facing similar situations in the past, Nigerians have consistently found ways to manage the crisis.
He said, “Despite challenges in the petroleum sector, Nigerians had constantly had these situations and we have found a way to always manage it.
“We are gradually getting out of this.”
He further said, “We have a process that continues to survive despite adversity.”
However, Dr. Olugbenga Adeoye, a chartered accountant, noted the importance of effective communication from government officials to address misinformation and panic among the public.
He also pointed out the need for alternative solutions, such as the promotion of electric vehicles and the development of public transportation infrastructure.
Despite government efforts to address the crisis, including the recent release of fuel from the Strategic Reserve, many Nigerians remain skeptical about the effectiveness of current measures.
Calls for long-term solutions and increased transparency from authorities have continued to grow.
