Epe Kayokayo festival, the biggest cultural festival in the Epe division of Lagos State will be taking place this August

EKO HOT BLOG reports that all plans have been concluded to host the biggest cultural festival in the Epe Division of Lagos State, the Epe Kayokayo festival.

The iconic festival with enormous tourism potential based on its socio-cultural and economic leanings is widely celebrated in Epe by all and sundry a month after the Eid-il-Kabir (Ileya) festival.

EDITOR’S PICK:

EKO HOT BLOG  gathered that the one-week-long festival is a traditional event with religious and historical undertones in commemoration of the glorious arrival of Lagos monarch, King Kosoko during the 18th century.

The Epe Kayokayo festival which has no doubt provided indigenes, non-indigenes and tourists with a platform to experience the unique cultural heritage of the kingdom, has over the years engendered productive social interactions and networking amongst families, friends and acquaintances both physically and virtually.

The Epe kayokayo festival has also proved its mettle for the town of Epe to be viewed from the perspective of love, communal unity and cohesion, cultural aesthetics, social bonding, artistic theatrics, breath-taking drama, spectacular dances, memorable fun, leisure and entertainment from the outside world.

The Epe Kayokayo festival which will come alive on a religious footing on Friday 19th August 2022 with the Tahajud at the iconic First Epe Central Mosque, Oke-Balogun and Press Conference would be brought to a close with the Grand Finale on Saturday 27th August 2022.

Embedded in the celebration are full-fledged events notably; Islamic lecture, quiz and Quranic recitation competition, lightening of the highly symbolic ”Etufu,” medical mission, visitation to the Olu-Epe of Epe by Royal homes and Royal procession to Marina waterfront and Fanti carnival/Youth day.

Others include novelty matches, children’s parties, special Jumaat service with Royal Fathers and invited dignitaries, annual Epe Kayokayo festival prayers, scholarship presentations, job awards and posthumous awards.

It became imperative for the leadership of the festival committee led by Otunba TJ Abass to widen the scope of the celebration having been restricted in the previous editions due to the ravaging COVID 19 pandemic.

It is worthy to note that the event would employ the prolific Islamic tunes of Sanni Fatai Omojeje Band to thrill guests after the visitation to the Olu-Epe of Epe by the Royal homes while the melodic musical services of ace musician and legendary Queen of Waka music, Salawa Abeni would take the center stage at the palace reception after the special Jumaat service with Royal fathers and invited dignitaries on Friday 25th August 2022.

As for the grand finale, it was gathered that fuji maestro, Alhaji Sule Alao Malaika would be on standby to treat guests, fans and tourists to his trademark fuji musical performance.
