Eko Hot Blog reports that the Epe Youth Forum, on Monday, held a youth rally that focused on fostering peace and unity among the youths in the community.
The rally was part of several events commemorating the 2023 Epe Kayokayo festival.
The event featured music, dance, and art as young people in the Epe community united to enjoy the company of one another.
It was also significant as the Epe Kayokayo festival is planning to incorporate more youths into the planning committee in the nearest future.
The rally took the Epe youths adorning beautiful attires through several notable places in the community.
The walk started from the Palace of the Olu-Epe, HRM Oba (Dr.) Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, Bangbopa Eshilokun 1, with a group of drummers and trumpeters accompanying the participants.
From the palace, the next stop was the Oke-Balogun area, through to the First Epe Central mosque in Oke-Balogun.
Still singing and dancing, the youths maintained the atmosphere till they got to the Ita-Opo junction. Then they moved towards Epe Recreation Centre, from where they linked up to the Epe General Hospital.
Moving on, they danced through Kasali Oluwo street till they got to Animashaun villa and stopped by to pay homage to Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, Arolugbade Elepe II, the Oloja of Epe kingdom.
After paying homage to the royal father, they moved on to the Epe roundabout and then to the Shade Area of Epe and stopped by to pay homage to another royalty, High Chief Adebayo, the Bashorun of Epe kingdom, at his workplace. The chief encouraged the youth to never stop making contributions to develop the Epe community.
The youths then moved to the Oke-Iposun community, from where they moved on to the heart of the Epe kingdom, Aiyetoro. They danced and sang from Aiyetoro and rounded up their walk at the Popo-Oba Square, where a Children’s Party was ongoing.
Some youth officials present at the rally included Comrade Giwa Ismail (Youth President), Babatunde Awesu (Vice President), Yusuff Olakewu (Organizing Secretary), Shobaloju Qudus (Treasurer), Shabiu Toheeb (Welfare), Ismail Quadri (Chief Whip), and Baruwa Basit (Auditor).
Olakewu, the rally’s organising secretary, said the walk enhanced youth inclusion.
The youth forum member noted that the rally was also an avenue for youths to come together and make plans for the growth and development of their community.
“Kayokayo comes up every year, and the youth rally is to unite the youths, to make them know Kayokayo is a big event, and for the youths to learn some lessons, and get to know that the event isn’t just for the adults alone, but they’re also to be involved,” he said.
“The youth rally is a time for the youths to come together and plan on how they’d be involved in the growth and development of the society.
“It is also a means to get the younger generation involved in the program of the community.”
The rally’s organising secretary also stated that the youth forum intends to improve the educational sector of the community.
According to him, they intend to do that by buying GCE forms for the youths and also empowering them with skills, and providing financial support to those involved in businesses.
