Epe Kayokayo Festival: Winners Of Quranic Recitation Contest, Quiz Bag Cash Prizes

Eko Hot Blog reports that winners of the Quranic recitation and quiz competitions at the ongoing Epe Kayokayo festival in Epe, Lagos State, on Saturday, received cash prizes.

The competitions were part of events lined up to celebrate the 2023 Epe Kayokayo festival.

The Day 2 events, which included Islamic lecture and prayer, kicked off with an opening prayer by the Chief Imam of Epe, Abdulrahman Abiola Aliru.

The Quranic recitation contest began with the junior category which featured six children from six different areas of Epe Kingdom.

The participants included Muhammad Rokeebah, representing Oke-Balogun, Olaiya Abdulbasit, representing Isale-Agoro, Yusuff Muheebah, representing Popo-Oba/Oke-Oba, Awal Abdulmalik, representing Oke-Iposun, Abdulquadri Muhammed, representing Bado-Oke, and Abdulsalam Mustapha, representing Bado-Isale.

The children impressed the gathering with their ability to recite verses and chapters of the Quran offhand.

The chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Kamorudeen Abdulahi, represented by Mr Daranijo, commended and prayed for them, and gave them a cash gift as a way of appreciating and encouraging them to do more.

Muheebah of Popo-Oba/Oke-Oba finished first and bagged a cash gift of N25,000, while Muhammed of Bado-Oke came second and received a cash gift of N20,000. Mustapha of Bado-Isale was in third place and got N15,000.

In the senior category of the Quranic recitation contest, Abdulwasiu Muhammad of Bado-Oke won N30,000 for finishing first, while Alausa Jabir of Popo-Oba/Oke-Oba got N25,000 for coming behind in second place. Lamina Hikmoh of Bado-Isale received N20,000 for her third place finish.

The judges, including Imam Zakariyah Sulaiman, Missioner, Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria, Epe branch (the chief judge), Dr. Abdulkareen Onokoya, Department of political science, LASUED, Epe campus, Imam Monsur Kolawo, from Ibadan, and Imam Abdulsalam Ilaludeen Shuaib, from Mojoda, Epe, selected the winners.

Each of the prize winners in the junior and senior categories of the contest received a plaque.

Following the Quran recitation contest, there was a quiz competition with questions asked on the Hadith and other topics in the holy book.

In the junior category, Abdulahi Abeebat and Ajanosi Abdulwahab of Oke-Iposun/Lagbade won first place, while Abdulwasiu Muhammad and Abdulquadri Muhammed of Bado-Oke finished second. Elewuro Ajarat and Abdulsalam Mustapha of Bado-Isale won the third position.

In the senior category, Onileiyan Abdulsamad and Alausa Jabir of Popo-Oba/Oke-Oba secured first place with Soneye Burham and Beyioku Zainab of Oke balogun finishing second. Ashiru Muiz and Ajanosi Abdulwahab of Oke-Iposun/Lagbade won third place. Besides receiving recognition, the quiz competition winners received cash prizes.

Earlier, Sheikh Imam Abubakr Ojibara Bulubulu-li- Quadriyat delivered an Islamic lecture where he enlightened guests on the importance of forgiveness, good deeds, and peaceful coexistence.

He also shared personal experiences about the significance of living in harmony.

The event concluded with a closing prayer and remarks by His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr Shefiu Adewale, the Olu-Epe of Epe kingdom.

It had dignitaries, friends, well-wishers and community dwellers in attendance.

Dignitaries such as Oloja-elect of Lagos, Abiola Kosoko, Alhaja Risikat Sherik, CEO Sherik trading store, Aiyetoro Epe, Alhaja Barakatu ogunnorin, High chief Tajudeen, Otun Seriki of Epe land, amongst others, made pledges and donations.

After the event, the king, the queen, some chiefs, as well as community dwellers proceeded to Marina waterfront for lighting of the Etufu.

FURTHER READING

The king first offered some prayers at the river bank before lighting the Etufu. Brooms were used to collect fire to light it up. Thereafter, others present took turns to light it up.
