Kebbi State First Lady Unveils ₦100 Million Support Fund for Persons with Disabilites
Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris, the wife of Kebbi State Governor, distributed ₦100 million in grants to help people with disabilities. The event, held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi, was part of this year’s International Day of People with Disabilities celebrations.
During the launch, Hajiya Zainab encouraged the grant beneficiaries to use the money wisely. She advised them to invest in small businesses to improve their living standards and become more independent.
She also highlighted her husband’s commitment to ensuring that children with disabilities in Kebbi State receive a quality education. “Every child, no matter their challenges, deserves the chance to learn and grow,” she said.
Gratitude from the Disability Commission
Alhaji Anas Malami Gwandu, the Chairman of the Kebbi State Persons with Disability Rights Commission, thanked Governor Nasir Idris for his focus on the welfare of people with disabilities. He noted that the grant would benefit individuals with various conditions, including blindness, deafness, paralysis, and leprosy.
He also stressed the importance of education for disabled children and encouraged beneficiaries to follow rules against street begging.
Celebrating Success Stories
One of the most inspiring moments of the event was the recognition of Abdulhakim Abubakar, a wheelchair user and a third-year student of Education Chemistry at Federal University Birnin Kebbi.
Abdulhakim had previously received a motorcycle and an offer of automatic employment as a teacher from Governor Idris. He was celebrated as a role model and proof that disabilities should not limit a person’s achievements.
The grant program reflects the Kebbi State government’s commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities. By providing financial support and celebrating success stories, the initiative aims to inspire others to overcome challenges and strive for a better future.
