Keir Starmer’s Plans To Meet Kamala Harris Before US Poll Stalled
Last month, the Prime Minister expressed his intention to meet both presidential candidates before American voters cast their ballots on November 5. He told reporters in New York that it would be “very good to meet both [Trump and Harris] at some stage” before the election, though he added, “We’ll just have to see what’s possible.”

While Starmer secured a two-hour dinner meeting with Donald Trump during the UN General Assembly in September, alongside Foreign Secretary David Lammy, plans for a meeting with Harris have stalled.
A government source acknowledged on Thursday that arranging a meeting with Harris now seems unlikely. “We’re obviously a number of days out from the campaign, and I suspect both candidates are focused on the election,” they said.
With less than two weeks until the election, both Harris and Trump are focused on swing-state rallies. Trump has also ramped up attacks on Labour’s connections with the U.S. Democratic Party in the final phase of the campaign.

On Wednesday, Trump’s campaign filed a legal complaint accusing Labour of “blatant foreign interference” in the election. The complaint cited Labour officials volunteering for Harris’s campaign and alleged these efforts amounted to “illegal foreign national contributions.”
Downing Street stated that any Labour officials working on Harris’s campaign were volunteering in a personal capacity, without reimbursement from the party. Starmer emphasized that his “good relationship” with Trump would not be affected by the complaint.
